Summary of the Guest Review:
We first insist on the fact that EBO is not an intellectual entertainment with little influence on our clinical practice but on the contrary a necessity and a legal requirement that orients and shapes our daily decisions. We then explain the five major steps of EBO making a clear distinction between the initial purely scientific critical evaluation of published data and the subsequent classification in pyramids of solidly proven facts only, according to their direct usefulness in human medicine. We also explain that a choice has to made between three different classifying pyramids, depending on the nature of the clinical question. We then report two applications of EBO conducted by us. We then indicate all the clinical questions in Orthodontics for which the international Cochrane organisation has already published or is currently preparing a systematic review. We finally offer precise suggestions to all implicated parties to facilitate the practice of EBO: authors of published studies, authors of systematic reviews, editors of periodicals, editors of data banks, and clinicians.
